What is this blog?

The RutgersZone is a revolutionary new space located in the Livingston Student Center on the Livingston Campus of Rutgers University. The space includes games like Skee-Ball and Pool, an array of HD Satellite televisions and a full-service ice cream/soda shop.

In addition to creating a unique experience on campus for Rutgers students, the RutgersZone also aims to develop life and leadership skills of the staff members working in the space.

This blog, the RutgersZone Experiment, is a chronicle of this ground-breaking experience being shared by seven undergraduate student managers and one professional staff general manager. These students are being tasked with working as a team to create an unmatched on-campus experience for our guests, learning to become effective managers and constantly "pushing the envelope" for what is expected on a college campus. As a part of their employment experience, each student manager is asked to blog at least once per week about the processes associated with opening this space or developing as a manger.

Welcome to the RutgersZone Experiment!

Student Employment Showcase

Rutgers kicked off its week long tribute to its student workers with a Student Employment Showcase. Representatives from multiple on campus facilities including Asian American Cultural Center, Office of Information Technology, and the RutgersZone, used visual displays to communicate their year of hard work. Below is a picture of Ali being interviewed in front of our table.

This was a great opportunity for administrators and by passers to see the awesome activities the RutgersZone offers as well as the work Ali and I specifically done. And even though we were located between the Rutgers Daycare Center and the Rutgers Animal farm (how could you resist the cute children and baby animals), we still got attention from our elaborate display.

What I didn't expect to get from this event is learning about the other organizations offering student employee jobs. We are all apart of a team of people helping to educate students further outside the classroom. I already knew the RutgersZone was focused on this. (our K in the TOKEN philsophy is knowledge).

And hey, there is always next year to win an award!

Check out this link for a video of the event! I'm in it... embarrassing. Matt also makes an appearance in the first few seconds! =)
