So on April 11th the Zone hosted a Blood Drive in the Student Center which turned out to be a huge success - thanks to all of you who donated! Jared (from Blood Services) and I set up a goal to get 40 donors throughout the whole day - which was from 11am - 5pm. All together we had 53 people come out! A great turnout! We had 38 people that were actually able to donate their blood, which made it a success! It was exciting to have the Blood Services workers be so proud of our efforts. The RutgersZone staff did an amazing job at recruiting people to donate and we had so much fun in the process. We had a table set up right in the middle of the student center so you couldn't walk by without us grabbing your attention - and it paid off! A lot of the RutgersZone staff donated their own blood as well (including myself)!
The second big event we were supposed to do was the gardening at New Jersey Olde Towne. Unfortunately, the weather was terrible on the day of the event - literally poured all morning. So instead, we all decided to get together anyways and go out for brunch so we could spend some time together. Afterall, community service isn't only about helping others and the community but it gives us an opportunity to spend some time with each other and get to know each other a little better. We had an awesome time and hopefully we can go back to New Jersey Olde Towne sometime in the near future!
We are still working hard to raise money for New Brunswick School kids - i'm not sure how close we are to our goal, but I sure hope it's enough to help out!
This year has been so much fun planning the events that we have done thus far and I am so glad that the staff has enjoyed the events as well. I am anxious to see how this tradition will carry on over the years and what kinds of things the Zone will get involved in in the future!
